“Will it be Santorini, with its black volcanic beaches and whitewashed houses? Kos, boasting a gnarled plane tree under which Hippocrates taught 2,400 years ago? Ios, once a favourite of the 18-30 gang but now maturing? Or Syros, the ‘Grand Lady of the Cyclades?”

This was the dilemma posed in a detailed double-page spread published in leading UK newspaper The Sun in August, following a four-day group media and blogger island-hopping cruise in the Aegean.

Marketing Greece, in collaboration with Celestyal Cruises, hosted five prominent British lifestyle media and bloggers on the cruise experience in July.

The cruise kicked off with a luxurious one-night stay on the Athens Riviera at the Grand Resort Lagonissi.

UK lifestyle and travel bloggers Lydia Millen and Poppy Loves published social media posts featuring the destinations and their experiences on Instagram and Twitter each day, drawing the attention of their tens of thousands of dedicated followers.

International online magazine The Luxury Travel Bible published images of the cruise experience on social media, hashtagging the phrase #FiftyShadesofBlue.

Lydia Millen published her first two blog posts, starting with the Athens Riviera and Syros.

In her Syros post, Millen noted: “We meandered the white marble streets where billowing bright pink blooms hung beautifully over boutique doorways.”

More stories and blog posts are to be published soon in The Luxury Travel Bible and on the blogs Lydia Elise Millen, Poppy Loves, Global Grasshopper and Love London.
