Marketing Greece at boot Düsseldorf 2015, the world’s largest sea tourism exhibition

Welcoming the opportunity to promote Greece’s sea-faring travel experiences, Marketing Greece is participating in boot Düsseldorf 2015, the world’s largest indoor exhibition of boats, yachts and water sports taking place at Messe Düsseldorf  from January 17-25, 2015.

Teaming up with the Greek Marinas Association and the Greek Consulate General in Düsseldorf, the delegation held a press conference on January 20. Hosting international media outlets and representatives of the travel trade, the Greek representatives had the opportunity to talk about Greece’s sea tourism product, infrastructure and competitive advantage in this sector of the market.

In his address to reporters, George Vernicos, General Secretary of SETE and member of Marketing Greece’s Board of Directors said: “Greece with its islands, archipelagos, light and way of life, is the most beautiful place in the world to explore by sea. Having a new favorable legal framework, we welcome all to visit our country in 2015. We will make every effort to become the world’s leading sea tourism destination. We have a vision  to take the lead in having a common European and Mediterranean policy for marine navigation.”

Stavros Katsikadis, President of the Greek Marinas Association, noted: “The expansion and upgrade of the Greek marinas is the key factor for the development of yachting and general sea tourism sector in Greece. For the 5th consecutive year, the Greek Marinas Association is an exhibitor at this wonderful international Boat Show and we are very happy this year to join Marketing Greece, acting as the official representative of Greek Tourism.”

"Each year, Greece’s presence at boot Düsseldorf becomes stronger,” said Grigoris Delavekouras, Consul General of Greece in Dusseldorf. “I am very pleased that we had the opportunity to brief dozens of journalists from around the world on the competitive advantage of Greece in the sea tourism sector, complementing and reinforcing the efforts of Greek exhibitors."

In its 46th year, the exhibition gathers representatives from the world's sea tourism industries. This year it is hosting over 1,650 exhibitors from 60 countries and more than 250,000 fans of water activities and sports. “Sea tourism is an integral part of the Greek tourism product,” says Iossif Parsalis, Marketing Greece’s Managing Director. “Blessed with endless seas, pristine coastlines and countless hours of sunshine, Greece boasts a natural sea tourism infrastructure. This is undoubtedly an ideal strategic platform that we will further develop for the sailing and yachting community worldwide.”Marketing Greece, in collaboration with Vernicos Yachts, is offering the chance to take part in “Greece, Big Blue,” an online competition geared to showcase the unique characteristics of Greece’s sea tourism product. Participants will be asked to complete a form with their details at www.discovergreece.com/boot. The winner will have the opportunity to enjoy a special sailing experience with friends for six days in Greece.
