Dodecanese island feature considered one of best to run this year in influential travel magazine
Leading travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller (UK) delves into the spiritual side of Patmos in a 10-page print and online destination feature that appears in the September edition of the publication.
The story, written by Timothy O’Grady and considered one of the best to run in the publication this year, takes readers on a mystery-filled journey from the island capital Chora and the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian to remote beaches and rocky coves.
“Perhaps everyone has their place or terrain, the one that lifts them in ways others cannot. For me, it’s the small, more remote Greek islands. It’s the white, silent villages, the fig and olive groves, the deep nautical blue of the Aegean that other seas seem not to possess, the faces of fishermen, aromatic cloud banks of jasmine and wild thyme, isolated coves, beach tavernas, vivid light moving through delicate, curative air. Patmos has all this and one other singular element emanating through the centuries from an apocalyptic vision recorded in a cave here at the end of the first century AD…” he writes.
The writer was hosted on a press trip organised by Marketing Greece in cooperation with strategic airline partner Aegean as part of efforts to showcase the South Aegean.
