It’s been a good start to the year for Greece in the American and Australian press. Firstly, Athens continued its recent upward trend in being rated as one of the leading city break destinations in the world by being included in the Top 52 Places To Go in 2014 by The New York Times. And not to be outdone Down Under, Australia’s Escape magazine, along with syndicated newspapers across the country, ran an extensive article on the beauty of the Athens Riviera. Both owed their existence to the efforts of Marketing Greece, who worked with the journalists of both papers.

‘Out of an economic crisis, a city surges back,’ declared the New York Times, ranking Athens 36 in its annual must-see destinations list, regarded as the most influential of its type in the world. It stressed the opening of the National Museum of Contemporary Art this spring and the gentrification of Monastiraki as examples of urban regeneration worthy of a visit.

And in the Australian press, journalist Amanda Dardanis struck a poetic chord, describing the best of the coastal stretch from Glyfada to Cape Sounion.

“Southern Athens is a fantastic multi-tasking destination for couples, families and business travellers seeking to unwind and experience ‘island magic’ without having to step foot on a ferry,” she wrote.

The article also appeared in the Melbourne Herald Sun’s sister papers on News Corp’s metro websites for their papers in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin and Hobart.
