Two prominent journalists from German news service DPA and leading French newspaper Le Monde delighted in the delicate aromas and flavours of Chios on a recent press trip to the northern Aegean island.
The aim of the trip was to convey to the German and French markets the fact that Chios is an island blessed by nature and history, with its miraculous mastiha, delicious mandarins and exceptional culinary traditions.
The journalists, both food writers, met with mastiha producers in the villages where the trees grow exclusively and had the opportunity to view the process involved in cultivating and collecting the precious resin, as well as producing mastiha oil and gum.
Along with mastiha, the journalists learned about new products created with mandarins grown in the citrus orchards of Kambos, paid a visit to two wineries and a historic Venetian-influenced estate, and enjoyed a variety of local dishes at traditional tavernas.
Marketing Greece arranged the press trip, which will see stories published by DPA and Le Monde in coming months, in close collaboration with the Chios Tourism Department.
