Can we tempt you to explore the journey of Greek food … from farm to table? Inspired by bringing people closer to a process that increasingly happens behind the scenes, the Open Farm community organises farm visits that allow visitors to Athens (and elsewhere in Greece) to get closer to the vital role of farmers in producing the raw materials of Greece’s Mediterranean diet, whilst helping to preserve the countryside and making sure that the agro-ecosystem remains sustainable.
This is the goal of the Open Farm community, which started the initiative of providing education and tour services in 2019, to connect the residents of big cities who feel disconnected from the countryside and the people producing the food they eat. In Greece, in particular, these processes play a vital role in sustaining the environment as well as the wellbeing of rural communities.
Through the Open Farm community, small farms that don’t usually have the resources or expertise to directly promote their products, can reach consumers and play a role in educating them on the origin of their food. You get to choose the farm you want to visit, based on product and location.
The Open Farm team also organises annual Open Farm Days, giving visitors of all ages the opportunity to visit a farm and get to know the producers and learn more about the journey of food in Greece.
